The Coin Drive has been a huge success. The middle school has been so generous with their spare change. We have raised $810 in just two short weeks! Our overall goal for the coin drive is to reach the $1000.00 mark. We have one more week left in the drive. Our class has made a small class goal for each person to bring in 5-10$ each. This of course is not required, but it was a goal created by the students and they felt it was a reasonable goal. We are looking forward to counting our change at the end of the week! Hat day flew by on Friday. We started our day by watching the 7/8th grade parade through our TAs. We saw a bunch of funny costumes and voted for our favorites. The day proceeded as normal from there but, I felt like our TA was dropping like flies! By the end of the day we only had 15 people in our room! I never got a picture in the morning of all of our hats, but tried to get one at the end of the day. Pictures are below, we had some great participants!

It was a crazy busy week. I can't believe it's already Friday! Ending last week with a field trip and then starting our week with two weird days, made this week fly by. I really want to focus this post on what I saw at Northern Lights.
What I got to see this week at NLRI and again at our own school during our team-building activities, was absolutely awesome! We were given some pretty tough challenges this week and our kids thoroughly took charge and conquered the challenges together. It was pretty awesome to see. We focused a lot on communication (both listening to all ideas and sharing ideas), problem-solving, teamwork, and perseverance. The challenge that we were given were NOT easy. They were intended to frustrate us, so that we would have to do and practice all of the skills above. And while at first using those skills were in fact the most challenging thing of the day, we eventually got to a place where we were working together and were truly acting as a team. One of the best things I heard from the day was all of the positive comments and communication. I heard a lot of "good job!", "you got this!", and "keep going you can do it!" That alone is such a wonderful thing to see as a teacher, when students stand by each other and support one another. Was it all perfect? No, it wasn't. But, after doing this for 5 years now, we know that the first day is NEVER perfect. That is why we will take time each month to work on these skills . The teachers will pose challenges that students need to work together to figure out. These days will help prepare students for when we go 40 feet in the air on the high ropes course, during our spring trip! NLRI has not shared the photos they took yet but I will be sure to share that link with you, as soon as we receive it. There were a ton of awesome pictures taken of the students participating in all of the tasks. They are always fun to see! I hope your student was excited to share all that they did on this great trip! REMINDERS * Homework due tomorrow, hoping for more students finishing their homework than last week! *Quarter is ending in two weeks! Remind students to fix an assignment they would like me to regrade! *Color Run packet pick-up is this evening at 6. *Color Run is on Saturday! Today we traveled to the Barre Opera House to watch the French Canadian band, De Temps Antan. They were phenomenal! It was a very energetic show. Please ask your child about the bands' crazy ability to play percussion with their FEET! It was quite impressive. While some students thought it was a bit "different" to be listening to a group of musicians singing in another language, it tied directly to our Geography curriculum and exposed them to another culture, that is so close (location wise) to our own. Students were able to dance and clap along and truly enjoyed the great show! (In attempt to keep things as normal as possible today, we did squeeze in all four of our classes into the time we had remaining in the day. Students did not miss any classes, they just had shorter classes.) Please remember that our class travels to Essex on Monday. We will be leaving school at 8am sharp and will arrive back at school at 2pm, just in time to catch the 2:30 bus. Students must wear sneakers, dress in layers, and bring a bagged lunch. Students will NOT be allowed to participate without sneakers. Students are also not permitted to have any electronic devices on the trip. We will go on this trip rain or shine, so please send appropriate gear (rain jackets, extra change of clothes, etc). If you have any questions please let me know! Just a quick note about homework- Over half of the students in my TA didn't complete their weekly assignment, today. This was quite a shock to me. We write our assignments into the assignment book every time we have one, and I give verbal reminders almost everyday. Please remind your students that missing homework assignments do effect the final grade of the quarter! Have a great weekend. |
