It was a crazy busy week. I can't believe it's already Friday! Ending last week with a field trip and then starting our week with two weird days, made this week fly by. I really want to focus this post on what I saw at Northern Lights.
What I got to see this week at NLRI and again at our own school during our team-building activities, was absolutely awesome! We were given some pretty tough challenges this week and our kids thoroughly took charge and conquered the challenges together. It was pretty awesome to see. We focused a lot on communication (both listening to all ideas and sharing ideas), problem-solving, teamwork, and perseverance. The challenge that we were given were NOT easy. They were intended to frustrate us, so that we would have to do and practice all of the skills above. And while at first using those skills were in fact the most challenging thing of the day, we eventually got to a place where we were working together and were truly acting as a team. One of the best things I heard from the day was all of the positive comments and communication. I heard a lot of "good job!", "you got this!", and "keep going you can do it!" That alone is such a wonderful thing to see as a teacher, when students stand by each other and support one another. Was it all perfect? No, it wasn't. But, after doing this for 5 years now, we know that the first day is NEVER perfect. That is why we will take time each month to work on these skills . The teachers will pose challenges that students need to work together to figure out. These days will help prepare students for when we go 40 feet in the air on the high ropes course, during our spring trip! NLRI has not shared the photos they took yet but I will be sure to share that link with you, as soon as we receive it. There were a ton of awesome pictures taken of the students participating in all of the tasks. They are always fun to see! I hope your student was excited to share all that they did on this great trip! REMINDERS * Homework due tomorrow, hoping for more students finishing their homework than last week! *Quarter is ending in two weeks! Remind students to fix an assignment they would like me to regrade! *Color Run packet pick-up is this evening at 6. *Color Run is on Saturday!
