Wow! I'm not sure if you've been told but, we have raised an amazing amount of money from our coin drive! We have collected money from 16 different TAs in the middle school! We have filled a giant coffee can, two Costco size Nesquick containers, a Tide container, and a piggy bank, all with people's spare coins (and even some dollars!). We have been counting coins all week and our current total raised is ... How amazing is that? The kids are thrilled about this fundraiser and have been awesome about collecting and counting the money, and advertising our cause! We will be collecting money next week, as well. I will also have more information about the family we will be sponsoring next week. In Other News...This week students requested we make it a weekly occurrence to have lunch in the classroom. So, on Thursday we started our first luncheons in our room. On Thursdays each week, students have the option to eat in the classroom. This week we had about 15 kids in the classroom. It was fun and relaxing. Students ate, chatted, and there was an epic game of Battleship held.
Also, today we met again with our kindergarten buddies. This week students brought down 1-2 books they chose from the library. They read to their buddies and then the kindergartners read from books they know. The sixth graders really look forward to visiting kindergarten. It's great to see how awesome our sixth graders are as positive role models! With Thanksgiving break coming up, there is no weekly ELA assignment and no math computation this week! Have a great weekend.

Students in sixth grade had their first awards assembly this week as an entire sixth grade. Teachers recognized students for the following criteria: *Handing in every assignment on time in each class. *No behavior write-ups Students who met these criteria had their names read in front of the entire grade, and our principals. Those names were then put into a hat, and ten students were drawn from that hat to win a "Free A!" Students that won are able use these certificates for any homework assignment this quarter. Quite a few students from our TA, won certificates! For this awards assembly sixth graders also had a chance to recognize their peers. Students in each TA were asked to nominate a student for the Positive Teamwork Award (PTA). We ask students to look for the following qualities in one of their peers: *Responsible (Organized, cleans up, prepared for class) *Respectful (Helps others, listens, behaves appropriately) *Effort (Tries hard, motivated) *Positive Attitude (Kind, Upbeat) Students then had to write down someone they felt fit this criteria, and why they thought so highly of them. It was amazing to see that nine different students were nominated! Our TA's winner was Jamison M. All students said such wonderful things about teach other. It was great to see what a positive community we are building. In Other News... Our Coin Drive has started off very strong! We collected and counted money today, and after only 4 days of TAs collecting coins we have already made $383.00. How amazing! The generosity in our school never ceases to amaze me. We will still continue to collect change through the week of Thanksgiving. Thank you for sending in all of the coins and the containers! They have worked perfectly.
Mrs. Allen's TA and our TA will be splitting the total amount of change to support two families for the holidays. When we are assigned our families, I will be sending out more information. Students have also been asking about the food drive. Every year BTMES does the food and gift drive. If you are looking to send in cans and/or non-perishable food items, please send them in anytime, we will be keeping them in our room until the student council collects the items. Announcements:*Report cards went home today. Today was an exciting day. Students read with their Kindergarten buddies, for the first time. Every two weeks our TA will head down to Mrs. Tewksbury's Kindergarten class, and will spend time reading to and listening to them read. We spent time in the library picking out picture books yesterday, and today the sixth graders read those books to their buddies. The kindergarten students even got to read some of their books to the 6th graders! It was so fun to see your students in a different light. They were energetic, kind, and very patient with their new friends. They answered questions, helped with reading, and reminded them to meet the reading buddy expectations. It was fun to see your students be great role models for these younger kiddos. I think this will be a new biweekly activity that your students will really enjoy. Enjoy the photos. |
