This week we've been playing a game called "Is This Seat Taken?" This is a fun, fast paced game that happens in a circle. Students try to trade seats with each other without the person who is "it" knowing. Whoever is left without a chair, ends up becoming the person who is "it." We played for two days and then on the third day, I asked for students to give me suggestions on how to make this game more fun. The suggestions ranged from "make two people it" to "you can only trade seats twice." Then, Brady randomly said "you can only crawl across the circle." This suggestion was so interesting that we decided to go with it. At first crawling meant, moving across the floor on their hands and knees, but the kids said it hurt, and then suggested only hands and feet needed to be on the floor. This became the new rule and hilarity ensued! Luckily I stood on a chair to get some funny pictures! Please see below. On an unrelated note, I completely lost my voice on Wednesday, and your kiddos really rose to the occasion. They were so helpful! We used the computers/Promethean board to communicate, and a few students helped me give quick verbal messages to the whole group. A teacher without a voice isn't ideal, but they were awesome and really helped me out! Very impressed with them and their behavior! Enjoy the pictures below- they are quite silly!

During TA this week, we continued our discussion about kindness. We focused our time on an activity that required everyone to look at their classmates through the lens of kindness. The activity was called Acknowledgement Buffet. Students wrote their names on a large piece of paper in a creative way. They then passed their papers around the classroom so by the end, everyone had written one thing that they appreciated about every single one of their classmates. This morning, students were given the chance to read the nice things their classmates said about them. The things students wrote were very thoughtful and heartfelt. We talked about how good it feels when someone goes out of their way to be kind or to say something nice. We also talk about how it's important to know that we all don't have to be friends with one another, but we do need to respect each other and care enough to acknowledge the positive qualities we all have. We hung our papers around the room so that we are reminded of all the things our classmates appreciate about each person in this room. There are pictures below. Also below- check out the pics of us playing after SBACs yesterday- we were dancing to use up some of our energy! |
