Thank you so much for your feedback last week. I received a lot of emails and comments. It's nice to know that this blog is being used. This week sixth grade teachers really noticed that some of our kiddos are already "on vacation." Sixth graders were silly and chatty this week, more than they normally are. We had to talk a lot about expectations and meeting them. The good news is, we typically see this near vacation times, so we expect it. Also this behavior has spiked across the board in 6th grade. All teachers are seeing it. If you could remind your student that their teachers are still expecting behavior to be on par, that would be wonderful. It's always nice to have the reinforcement from families at home! To end on a positive note, we started our day off combining with Mrs. Allen's group for Fantastic Friday. Today students had a choice, they could play a board game, hangman, or card game. They had a ball, and it was great to see all the kids joining in different games. Also, even though we had indoor recess today, we did have some awesome games of knee hockey that happened. We split the group into 4 even teams and let them rotate through 3 minute games. It was intense, but very fun to watch! The kids had a blast! Pictures are below! Some announcements for the coming week: 1. We are having an author visit on Monday. Her name is Julia Shipley, and she's from Craftsbury. She has published her own poetry books and writes for magazines like Vermont Life, Seven Days, and Yankee Magazine. Students will be meeting with her for about an hour. Some students will be randomly selected to participate in a luncheon with the author as well as a writing workshop. 2. There is no weekly comp for math or weekly ELA assignment this week. In ELA, we are finishing up essays and students can expect some extra homework for ELA. In Math, they have homework for the weekend, that involves correcting a quiz. 3. Students MUST have a note from home for any after school activity that is not part of their normal routine (Staying after to help a teacher, going to a friends house, etc). Please be sure to send these in. 4. Next Friday is Winter Carnival! We will be spending a lot of our time outdoors. Please be sure that snow gear and a change of clothes come in with your student. Otherwise, they will not be able to participate in activities. 5. Sixth graders are continuing to collect various things for community service. Next week there will be a 6th grade food drive. Also, students are still collecting DVDs for CHaD, and also money for the American Cancer Society. If you feel like contributing please send items in with your student.
