Students in sixth grade had their first awards assembly this week as an entire sixth grade. Teachers recognized students for the following criteria: *Handing in every assignment on time in each class. *No behavior write-ups Students who met these criteria had their names read in front of the entire grade, and our principals. Those names were then put into a hat, and ten students were drawn from that hat to win a "Free A!" Students that won are able use these certificates for any homework assignment this quarter. Quite a few students from our TA, won certificates! For this awards assembly sixth graders also had a chance to recognize their peers. Students in each TA were asked to nominate a student for the Positive Teamwork Award (PTA). We ask students to look for the following qualities in one of their peers: *Responsible (Organized, cleans up, prepared for class) *Respectful (Helps others, listens, behaves appropriately) *Effort (Tries hard, motivated) *Positive Attitude (Kind, Upbeat) Students then had to write down someone they felt fit this criteria, and why they thought so highly of them. It was amazing to see that nine different students were nominated! Our TA's winner was Jamison M. All students said such wonderful things about teach other. It was great to see what a positive community we are building. In Other News... Our Coin Drive has started off very strong! We collected and counted money today, and after only 4 days of TAs collecting coins we have already made $383.00. How amazing! The generosity in our school never ceases to amaze me. We will still continue to collect change through the week of Thanksgiving. Thank you for sending in all of the coins and the containers! They have worked perfectly.
Mrs. Allen's TA and our TA will be splitting the total amount of change to support two families for the holidays. When we are assigned our families, I will be sending out more information. Students have also been asking about the food drive. Every year BTMES does the food and gift drive. If you are looking to send in cans and/or non-perishable food items, please send them in anytime, we will be keeping them in our room until the student council collects the items.
