I don't know how it's possible, but the end of the quarter is already two weeks away (October 30th!). That is crazy! It's hard to believe we've been at this for almost 9 weeks.
This week flew by because it was so short. But, in ELA we did do a lot! We started narrative writing. We started talking about how in order to write a powerful personal narrative (true story about yourself!) you must hook the reader in, focus on a small important moment in time, and describe it in deep detail. We then talked about how we can generate ideas for these stories. Students brainstormed a list about times where they have learned a valuable life lesson, They also made a list of "Firsts & Lasts." Some examples of "firsts" included "First time I scored a goal, first time I got my own pet, first time I saw my kitty ... etc" Some examples of Lasts included "Last time I saw my grandmother, last time I played soccer, the last time I saw my dog." All of these little moments in their lives could potentially be shaped into a really great narrative. On Monday, we will spend most of the class time writing and drafting these "small moments" stories. Talk with your students, help them remember the details of these important moments. The more they talk about it, the easier it is for them to write about it! I hope you all have a great week. I'll see you at conferences on Thursday!
